Coloured state 4 carte à figures map of the Americas by Willem Janszoon Blaeu from the golden age of Dutch cartography. Appearing separately around 1620, the map, with minor modifications, continued to be published and included in Blaeu’s landmark atlases, “Atlas Novus” and “Atlas Maior” until 1672. It is decorated across the top with views of nine cities of the region, including Havana, Cartagena, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro, and panels down both sides depicting local men and women in native dress. A description of America appears on the verso in Latin. Other than professional repairs to a bottom centrefold split and some small wormholes, a lovely old coloured example on heavy stable paper with tight margins in excellent condition. 41 cm x 55 cm
