Finely coloured town plan of Venice from the landmark Braun & Hogenberg atlas of cities throughout the world entitled “Civitates Orbis Terrarum” first published in 1572. The plan, initially appearing in 1572, shows a detailed view of 16th century Venice together with its canals and iconic monuments; identified in a legend below the plan which specifies 188 separate locations. The Doges procession, based on a 1559 work by Pagani, is illustrated in a cartouche below the plan. A description of Venice appears verso in German. Other than some professional repairs to the side margins not affecting the image, the town plan is in excellent condition. 33.5 cm x 48 cm
