Coloured map of Suffolk from the rare Sudbury & Humble Latin edition of John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. Inset is a plan of the town of Ipswich which is flanked by images of the Roman general Petillius Cerealis on the left and Boadicea, the British Queen who famously led the unsuccessful revolt, on the right. The arms of the noble families of the county appear down the sides of this very symmetrically designed map. A description of the county appears on the verso in Latin. The map is a finely coloured, strong dark impression in excellent condition. 37 cm x 50 cm
