Coloured map of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire that was originally issued by Christopher Saxton in 1579 for his landmark publication “An Atlas of England and Wales”. The plate was significantly amended by Philip Lea for his 1689 and 1693 editions of the Saxton atlas and again by George Willdey, who added his imprint for his 1732 reissue. The map shows the three counties of Oxon, Bucks and Berks and includes an inset town plan of Oxford with a key indicating 28 place of interest, including Oxford colleges. Blank verso. Other than a professional repair to a minor bottom centrefold split, a strong, dark impression of this rare map in excellent condition. 39.5 cm x 44.5 cm
