A coloured map of Sussex taken from the final edition of John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain” published by Bassett and Chiswell. The map contains a plan of the city of Chichester, a description of the Norman invasion of 1066, the arms of the noble families of the county and is further decorated with numerous sailing ships and sea monsters. A description of the county appears on the verso in English. Other than a small stain on the left side of the map and a few tiny wormholes in the bottom blank margin, a finely coloured example of this decorative map with wide margins in excellent condition. 38.5 cm x 51 cm
