Uncoloured map of Norfolk from the rare Latin edition of John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain” published by John Sudbury and George Humble in 1616. One of the most decorative and sought after maps of Norfolk, it contains a plan of Norwich with a key to 24 important locations in the town and a description of two battles associated with rebellions against the crown that took place in 1381 and 1549. Also included are the arms of the noble families of the county and the royal coat of arms surrounded by a lion and unicorn. A description of Norfolk appears on the verso in Latin. Other than some mild toning to the blank margins and remnants of framing tape, a lovely, dark impression in excellent condition. 37.5 cm x 50 cm
