Coloured map of the Isle of Wight from a ca 1627 George Humble edition of John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. Certainly one of the most decorative maps of the island, it contains plans of Newport and Southampton, several sailing ships, a sea monster and coats of arms of local nobles. A description of the island appears verso in English. Other than professional repairs to a bottom centrefold split and tears to the bottom margin that enter the image, a finely coloured dark impression in very good condition. 38 cm x 50.5 cm
