Beautifully coloured state 1 map from the ca 1610 edition of Camden’s Britannia showing the ancient kingdoms of England and Wales under the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy and decorated with a crown, a compass rose, sea monsters and sailing ships. Initially issued in 1607, Britannia was the first publication that contained a complete set of individual county maps of England and Wales based on the work of Christopher Saxton and John Norden. Britannia also included maps of Ireland and Scotland, which were based on the late 16th century work of Gerard Mercator. All of the maps in Britannia were engraved by either William Hole or William Kip. Blank verso. The map is in excellent condition. 27.5 cm x 32 cm
