Finely coloured strip map of the coaching route from London to Hith taken from a ca 1698 edition of Ogilby’s opus entitled “Britannia”, the first national road atlas of any country in Western Europe and first published in 1675. The 69 mile route starts from the Standard in Cornhill, London and goes through the towns of Farningham, Wrotham, Aylesford, Maidstone, going past Leeds Castle and on to Ashford and Hythe. The map has a decorative cartouche depicting Neptune and Venus and indicating the main towns on the route and the distances between them. Blank verso.
