Coloured first state strip map (without number at bottom) of the coaching route from Gloucester to Coventry taken from Ogilby’s opus entitled “Britannia”, the first national road atlas of any country in Western Europe and first published in 1675. The map has a decorative cartouche illustrating a country based sheep-herding scene and containing a description of the 58 mile route that indicates the main towns on the route and the distances between them. The route starts from Gloucester and proceeds in a generally north-eastern direction through the towns of Cheltenham, Winchcombe, Chipping Campden, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick and ends at Coventry. Blank verso. The map is a finely coloured, sharp dark impression on heavy paper with wide margins and is in excellent condition. 30.5 cm x 43 cm
