A coloured map of the east coast of North America from Seutter’s “Atlas Novus”, first published in Augsburg in 1720. The 3rd state of this map, with Seutter’s imprint along with the privilege notation below, is the first in the series to show of the boundaries of the British colonies of New England, Massachusetts and New York, among others. As the interior was not yet well explored by Europeans, much of the space is delightfully and naively taken up with depictions of animals such as beavers, bears, hogs and turkeys. At the bottom there is a prospect of New York with a key to 19 important places in Latin. The map is further decorated with a scene of a procession, including several local inhabitants, presenting the bounty of the New World to King George II. Blank verso. Other than a short, clean bottom centrefold split, a lovely, old coloured, strong dark impression on heavy, stable paper in excellent condition. 50 cm x 58.5 cm
