A wonderful, old coloured, large scale, double hemisphere map of the world engraved by W. Godson and published by George Willdey. This very decorative map, which is engraved on two large joined sheets, is surrounded by 24 projections, diagrams and cartouches illustrating both current and historical perceptions of the world. In the centre of the map are two large projections of the celestial constellations of the northern and southern hemispheres. Also shown are diagrams of the astronomical observations of Cassini including the rings of Saturn and the four moons of Jupiter. Other astronomical images include a curious view of the face of the Sun and a much more realistic one of the Moon. Blank verso. The map has some professionally repaired tears and margins added on the top and bottom to facilitate framing; otherwise a terrific example of this extremely uncommon map in very good condition. Will look fantastic framed. 65 cm x 96 cm
