Coloured and finely engraved steel-plate map of Kent by Thomas Moule, a scholar and writer on heraldry. Initially issued in 1836, this example was most probably taken from an atlas entitled “Barclays Universal English Dictionary” first published by George Virtue in 1842. Moule’s maps were unusual for the 19th century as most maps published during this period are simply functional reference tools. Considered to be the last series of decorative maps to be issued in England, they are richly decorated with armorials, figures, architectural features and vignettes of local scenes and buildings. Blank verso. The map is in excellent condition. 19.5 cm x 25.5 cm
