Finely coloured map of the British Isles as appearing in Jansson’s atlas of the world “Novus Atlas”, first published in 1646. This historical map of the British Isles was copied from a similar map by Ortelius, to whom credit is given in the title. Contains an illustration of an ancient British man and woman along with three compass roses in sea areas, sailing ships and sea monsters. Blank verso. The map has some marginal splits and tears well away from the image; otherwise a strong dark impression on heavy paper in excellent condition. 39 cm x 50.5 cm
