Old coloured map of Malta and Gozo with an inset view of the strategic port of Valeta by Frederick de Wit published ca 1680. Showing the Maltese islands in the center, the map covers the north African coast from Tunis in the west to Tripoli in the east and shows the southern portions of the islands of Sardinia and Sicily in the north. The map is richly decorated with a scrolling border, several sailing ships, a compass rose and an ornate cartouche with Maltese armaments. A key identifies 33 locations within the inset view of Valetta. Blank verso. Other than some toning to map and discolouration to the blank margins from a previous framing, a beautifully old coloured example in very good condition. 44 cm x 54 cm
