Coloured map of Cumberland as appearing in John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. The map contains a plan of the city of Carlisle along with decorative engravings of Roman antiquities located there. As the verso is blank, this map may have either been issued separately or included in a campaigning atlas during the English Civil War. A strong dark impression, there is some browning on the right side of the map, a close bottom margin and various marginal defects, otherwise a very good, finely coloured example. 38 cm x 50.5 cm
