Finely coloured map of North and South America engraved by Hondius for inclusion in the Mercator atlas. Considered to be among to most desirable maps of the Americas, it shows a fairly accurate depiction of South America while it is clear that North America remained largely a matter of conjecture. There are many illustrations including a scene of Brazilian natives brewing alcohol and an unusual Japanese sailing vessel. Verso shows title in French and page number as Xxxxxxx. Other than a light wax stain, a superb example with wide margins. 37.5 cm x 49.5 cm
