Coloured map of Wiltshire from the first John Sudbury and George Humble edition of John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. Certainly one of the most decorative maps of the county, it is highlighted with a striking and naïve view of Stonehenge. Inset is a plan of the town of Salisbury together with the arms of the noble families of the county. A description of the county appears on the verso in English. The map has professional repairs to minor marginal defects and a bottom centrefold split; otherwise a superbly coloured, strong dark impression on heavy paper in excellent condition. 38.5 cm x 51 cm
