Coloured strip map of the coaching route from London to Harwich taken from Ogilby’s opus entitled “Britannia”, the first national road atlas of any country in Western Europe and first published in 1675. The map has a decorative cartouche containing a description of the 71 mile route that indicates the main towns on the route and the distances between them. The route starts from the Standard in Cornhill, London and proceeds in a generally north-eastern direction through the towns of Ilford, Rumford, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Kelvedon, Colchester, Manningtree and terminating in Harwich.
