Coloured map of Monmouthshire taken from the Philip Lea edition of Christopher Saxton’s atlas, “The Shires of England and Wales…”, first published by Lea in 1689. Using the original Saxton plate, Lea reworked the engraving by adding town plans and roads, based on the work of Speed and Ogilby, respectively. Lea also inserted town symbols, new geographic features, different coats of arms and changed the title to add his own imprint. Blank verso. Other than a very small rust hole in the Prince of Wales feathers, a beautifully coloured example in excellent condition. 39 cm x 48 cm
