Coloured map of the Mediterranean islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino by the Italian publisher and cartographer Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi. The map, which was engraved by Francesco Donia, appeared in De Rossi’s composite atlas of the world entitled “Mercurio Geografico” published in Rome ca 1690. Under a banner title cartouche, the top half of the map shows the cartography of the group of islands while the bottom half is dominated by a plan of the fortified peninsula harbour of Valetta. The plan, which is decorated in Baroque style, sits in between a key (“Annotationi”) that identifies 37 important locations in and around the city. Blank verso. The map is a beautifully coloured, strong dark impression with full margins on heavy stable paper in excellent condition. 40.5 cm x 55 cm
