Coloured state 2 map of Dorset from the 1610 or 1637 English edition of Camden’s Britannia. Initially issued in 1607, Britannia was the first publication that contained a complete set of individual county maps of England and Wales. The county maps in Britannia were based on the work of Christopher Saxton and John Norden and were engraved by William Hole and William Kip. The map is decorated with the Royal coat of arms, a sea monster, a sailing ship and a compass rose. Blank verso. The map has narrow margins, a few pinholes and a repair to reinforce a small area a paper weakness; otherwise a finely coloured map in very good condition. 27 cm x 38 cm
