Finely coloured map of Devon taken from the rare Sudbury & Humble Latin edition John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. Well balanced and clearly presented, the map contains a large plan of the Exeter together with a key identifying 48 gates, churches, castles and other important locations in the city. The map is further decorated with the royal coat of arms, a strap-work title cartouche and the arms of the noble families of the county. A description of the county appears on the verso in Latin. A dark impression on stable paper, the map is in excellent condition. 37 cm x 50 cm
