Coloured map of Scotland from the ca 1610 English edition of Camden’s Britannia. Initially issued in 1607, Britannia was the first publication that contained a complete set of individual county maps of England and Wales based on the work of Christopher Saxton and John Norden. Britannia also included maps of Ireland and Scotland, which were based on the late 16th century work of Gerard Mercator. All the maps in Britannia were engraved by either William Hole or William Kip. Blank verso. Other than a tiny rust hole in the title cartouche and a shadow in the blank border from a previous framing, the map is a finely coloured, strong dark impression in very good condition. 26 cm x 31 cm
