Old coloured map of Staffordshire from the rare Sudbury & Humble Latin edition John Speed’s “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain”. One of the most sought after maps of Staffordshire, it contains plans of Stafford and Litchfield with separate keys to important locations in each town and a description of the battle of Blore Heath, one of the first major battles in the War of the Roses that took place in 1459. Also included are the arms of the Baron of Stafford and the royal coat of arms. A description of the county appears on the verso in Latin. The map has a repaired tear just entering to plate to the left of the centrefold, otherwise a lovely old coloured, strong dark impression in excellent condition. 38.5 cm x 51 cm
