A beautiful, old coloured map of the Perugia region of Umbria taken from the 1601 Latin edition of Abraham Ortelius’ landmark atlas “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum”, the first modern atlas of the world. It was based on Egnatio Danti's 1580 Perugia map and was finely engraved by Mario Cartaro (van den Broecke # 136). The map, which shows the mountainous region surrounding Perugia including a prominent Lake Trasimeno and the town of Assisi, is decorated with a strapwork cartouche and a compass rose. A description of the region appears on the verso in Latin. Other than toning to the verso and some minor offsetting, a dark impression on heavy, stable paper with wide margins in very good condition. 33 cm x 47 cm
