Lovely old colour map of the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gozo by Nicolaes Visscher. It includes an inset of the almost the Mediterranean Sea showing, for reference purposes, the location of the two island therein. The map, which shows the islands in great detail, is decorated with several sailing vessels, mythological figures and an ornate title cartouche with the Maltese cross and coat of arms. Blank verso and backed with tissue. Other than professional repairs to a bottom centrefold split and tears to the margins that just enter the image, the map is a superbly old coloured example with wide margins in very good condition. 46 cm x 56 cm
