Coloured strip map of the first portion of the coaching route from London to St. Davids taken from Ogilby’s opus entitled “Britannia”, the first national road atlas of any country in Western Europe and initially published in 1675. The map has a decorative cartouche containing a description of the 56 mile route between London and Abingdon that indicates the main towns on the route and the distances between them. The route starts from the Standard in Cornhill, London and proceeds in a generally western direction through the towns of Kensington, Hammersmith, Hounslow, Slough, Maidenhead, Henley, Benson and terminating in Abingdon.
