Old coloured town plan of Cambridge from the landmark Braun & Hogenberg atlas of cities throughout the world entitled “Civitates Orbis Terrarum” first published in 1572. The plan, initially appearing in 1575, shows details of 16th century Cambridge from a birds-eye perspective including its colleges, castle and local residents in period clothing. A key is included in the top right that identifies 19 important places and buildings shows their location. A description of the town appears verso in Latin. Other than some professionally repaired minor cracking related to the use of verdigris, a lovely old coloured example in excellent condition. 33 cm x 44.5 cm
