Old coloured map of Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire from Jansson’s atlas of the world “Le Nouvel Atlas”, Volume IV containing the English county maps, first published in 1646. The unusual western orientation of the counties creates a well balanced, unusual view of the two counties. The map is decorated with the coats of arms of the noble families of the counties on the top and a collection of putti and an agricultural scene around the title cartouche at the bottom. A description of Buckinghamshire appears on the verso in French. Other than some worm damage to the wide margins and a few tiny professionally repaired worm holes to the image, a strong dark impression on heavy paper in very good condition. 40 cm x 50 cm
