Uncoloured town plan of Vincenza from Pierre Mortier’s reissue of Joan Blaeu’s atlas of Italian towns and monuments entitled “Theatrum Civitatum et Admirandorum Italiae”. The Blaeu atlas was first published in Amsterdam in 1663 and comprised four volumes, each of which focused on a particular region of Italy. The plan, which appeared in the fourth volume of the atlas, shows a very detailed view of 17th century Vicenza with 94 of its important locations separately identified in a key running along the bottom of the image. Characteristic of the quality of Blaeu’s atlas, the engraving is very fine and clearly shows the town’s fortifications, waterways, important buildings and piazzas. Blank verso. A lovely example of this uncommon town plan on heavy, stable paper with wide margins in excellent condition. 42 cm x 52.5 cm
